Canon EOS R Image Quality: Interesting

Ok so really bad sound but trustworthy information from Tony Northrup reviewing  the Canon EOS R image quality which seems to pack the sensor from the Canon 5D Mark IV and if you are a photography nerd you know it may not be the best out there spec wise wise.

According to Canon the image processing in the EOS R should be a little bit better but according to Tony's test that was not apparent.

The results are surprising "the Canon EOS R solidly beats the a7 III in most conditions, with noticeably sharper images, even at high ISOs. However, the dynamic range of the EOS R has a real flaw: heavy banding when recovering shadows. We don't see this flaw in the 5D Mk IV, which supposedly has the same sensor. Nonetheless, dynamic range is better than the Canon 6D Mk II."

I still think it's a pretty great camera for a photography enthusiast. It may not yet be ready for a working proffesional but it's a good step forward and the competition with Sony on the full frame mirrorless camera market can only mean constant improvements, which is great for us consumers.

Even so I would buy this camera just yet, I would probably wait for it's second or third iteration because by then it would  packed with features and improvements.

Ideally a BSI (Back Side Illuminated Sensor) would be great to see in this camera along with the removal of the anti-aliasing filter but not sure if that's going to happen.
