Do Memory Cards Fail?
The effort is appreciated, starting the
pole, compiling all the data, making easy to read graphs, kudos and
thank you to everyone that put in the time and effort but it all
seems inconclusive.
Take my opinion with a grain of salt as
I'm only a photography enthusiast but, everything fails at some
point. Take cameras for example some fail after a lower number of
shutter actuations and some work way over the actuation expectations.
Is this important for professionals,
yes, very important as you may never recover that data if a card
fails but I think the video is aimed at the new Nikon Z and Canon EOS
R mirrorless full frame cameras which only have one SD card slot and
which have been criticized into oblivion.
Would it be ideal to have 2 card slots
in a camera, of course but come on, it's not the end of the world and
a single SD card slot still works great.
Conclusion: your memory cards may fail –
was someone not aware of that?
What I will say is that Tony does
propose a great idea towards the end: to have camera manufacturers build internal
memory into the camera which runs on a loop (e.g. 128GB) and then keep
one card slot. The internal memory will work as a back-up to the
memory card. This is an awesome, one idea worth supporting by the
photography community.
